The
Texas Council of Faculty Senates is
a federation of
faculty senates, councils and assemblies at Texas public senior
colleges and universities. An independent organization, the Council
meets twice annually in Austin to share faculty governance experiences
and problems and to exchange ideas on higher education with members,
agents of state government, and others. All faculty governance
organizations at state senior colleges and universities are members of
the Texas Council of Faculty Senates. |

WHEREAS,
allowing
concealed firearms on university campuses threatens
our ability to create and maintain
a safe, open learning environment
for
students, faculty and staff,
Be it resolved that the
members of Texas Council of Faculty Senates
oppose any legislation
or initiatives that will overturn the present
prohibitions on
carrying concealed weapons on university campuses.

The
Council's purposes include:
- maintaining
communication and coordinating among faculty governance organizations
from different institutions;
- assisting
faculty governance organizations in the
discharge of their responsibilities; and
- representing
faculty governance organizations,
primarily in matters of professional standards and academic
responsibility, to government and other bodies.
